RACE CATEGORIES

The Climb to Abu Dhabi will have a total of 6 race categories. Below are the various categories.

Elite –

This category will compete in Tower 2 of the Etihad Towers across 82 floors / 1,617 steps.

The race is based on a time trial format with Top 10 prize money for men and Top 5 for women distributed.

Note this race category is by invitation only. Minimum requirements and qualifications are mandatory as set by the World Towerrunning Association.

Challenger –

This category will compete in Tower 2 of the Etihad Towers across 82 floors / 1,617 steps.

The race is based on a time trial format with Top 5 prize money for men and women distributed.

Due to the nature and physical demands, this race category has the following requirements;

  • Must have competed in one of the following events in the past 12-18months and are a GCC National or Resident.
    • Marathon
    • Half Marathon
    • Endurance/Obstacle Race such as Desert Warrior Challenge, Spartan Race, Wadi Adventure and or Tough Mudder
    • A cut off time of 20mins Male and 24mins Female at the 50 floors marker will be applied on race day as a safety measure

*The MINIMUM age requirement to take part is 16 years-old as of race day.

 

Corporate or Team Relay –

This category will compete in Tower 2 of the Etihad Towers across 82 floors / 1,617 steps.

Each team consists of 4 Runners, which may have both male and female runners. The team of 4 will compete in a relay arrangement each completing a minimum of 20 floors. The winning team will be calculated by the final runner that crosses the line.

*The MINIMUM age requirement to take part is 16 years-old as of race day.

 

Individual Challenge –

This category will compete in Tower 2 of the Etihad Towers across 32 floors / 720 steps.

Participants will compete in the following Male and Female age groups:

  • 16yrs – 29yrs
  • 30yrs – 39yrs
  • 40yrs – 49yrs
  • 50+yrs

*The MINIMUM age requirement to take part is 16 years-old as of race day.

 

Family or Team Relay –

This category will compete in Tower 2 of the Etihad Towers across 82 floors / 1,617 steps.

Each team consists of 4 Runners, which may have male, female and teen runners. The team of 4 will compete in a relay arrangement each completing a minimum of 20 floors.

This category is a non-competitive, non-timed race

*The MINIMUM age requirement to take part is 12 years-old as of race day.

 

School Relay –

This category will compete in Tower 2 of the Etihad Towers across 82 floors / 1,617 steps.

Each team consists of 4 Runners, between the age of 12 – 16 years old. The team of 4 will compete in a relay arrangement each completing a minimum of 20 floors.

This category is a non-competetive, non-timed race in aid of raising each school’s charity or initiative.

Awards Ceremony
The first three winners of each category are requested to assemble at the prize presentation area in front of the stage immediately after the announcement of each category’s results. Winners who are unable to receive their award in person should immediately inform the Climb to Abu Dhabi Technical Director at the prize presentation area and arrange award pickup at or delivered at a later stage.

MEDICAL & SAFETY

Medical support and emergency medical response will be coordinated by our Official Medical Partner – National Ambulance.

Though it’s not a treatment center, the medical staff will assess each situation and assist in obtaining appropriate treatment for the participant. Emergency medical vehicles will also be present near the start area.

If you need medical assistance while on the course, or see someone who does, please inform a medical staff or race official.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Terms and Conditions

  1. Participants must be 12 years of age or older on the day of the event. The Organising Committee has the right to verify age of participants before, during and after the race.
  2. All participants must ensure they are medically and physically fit to participate in the race. Completion of his or her entry confirms the participant’s agreement to the disclaimer and rules and regulations of the event.
  3. All entry fees are non-refundable, and may not be deferred toward a future event. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse entry for any applicant who provides false information, does not make the required payment or fails to meet entry requirements.
  4. The Organising Committee will not be liable for any loss and/or damage, personal or otherwise, and howsoever arising from the event.
  5. The Organising Committee reserves the right to close entries before the deadline without any notice once the race quota is full.
  6. The Organising Committee will cover the race with public liability only. Runners should be responsible for their own personal accident insurance.
  7. The Organiser reserves the right to use any photographs and recordings taken during the event, for legitimate purposes, including commercial advertising.
  8. By submitting his or her entry, each applicant agrees to observe and accept all Terms and Conditions of the race in force from time to time introduced by the Event Organiser.

 

Official Rules

  1. Participants must follow instructions as given from all event officials including race staff, volunteers, medical personnel and security officers before, during and after the event.
  2. All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner during their participation in the event.
  3. No official result will be given to runners who do not start in the race time assigned to them by the Organising Committee.
  4. Every participant shall be provided with a race number, which MUST be worn on the front of shirts and be visible at all times during the event. The race number may not be exchanged with or transferred/sold to any other person. No participant shall be permitted to participate in the event without the appropriate number.
  5. Participants must retire from the race immediately, if asked / requested to do so by any member of the officials, medical personnel and security officers.
  6. For prize winners or potential prize winners wishing to dispute the results, Protest Form must be submitted to Race Director within 30 minutes after the results published or immediately after the prize presentation, whichever is earlier.
  7. For all other participants, disputes and appeals regarding the results must be submitted in writing within 5 days of the announcement of the results, with return email address. The organizer reserve the right not to entertain any protest or dispute submitted 5 working days after the event.

What type of race is this and what is the distance?

This is a vertical stair climbing race.

Tower 2 race categories will see particpants climb 82 floors / 1,617 steps or 32 floors / 720 steps.

Who can participate in the run?

The race is open to the public and the categories comprise of amateurs, teams and elite athletes.

Is this a good race for first-timers?

Although challenging, this race is achievable for most people. However, we strongly recommend training for this event for first-timers or even if you are an experienced runner but have never done this particular race before.

What is Abu Dhabi’s weather like in January?

The temperature in Abu Dhabi in January is between 24 to 30°C.

What is your refund and transfer policy?

There will be no refunds and no transfers (giving up your entry to another person).

TRAVEL

How far is Etihad Towers from Abu Dhabi International Airport?

Approximately 37km. It can take from 30 minutes to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Approximately 75 AED ($20 USD)

How far is Etihad Towers from Dubai International Airport?

Approximately 160km. It can take from 90 minutes to 120 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Approximately 350 AED ($95 USD) in a taxi. There are is a bus service available from Ibn Battuta Metro Station to Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station. Link for further information – http://dubai-buses.com/index.aspx

What hotels do you recommend for the event?

Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Hotel is the official hotel of the Climb to Abu Dhabi. A preferential rate of 200 USD per night inclusive of breakfast for event participants has been established. Booking code to be applied from official website from 1st December 2016 and valid until 15th January 2017 only. There are also many other options nearby – suggested to view google maps.

 

BEFORE THE RACE

When and where is the Race Kit Collection?

    What do I need to bring with me in order to pick up my Race Kit?

    You need to bring your Confirmation E-mail (digital copy accepted) and your photo ID.

    What if I cannot attend the Race Kit Collection?

    All participants are to attend the Race Kit Collection to pick up their race kit & goodie bag. Limited race kits will be available on race day. Note deliveries of race kits are available on the registration platform at a courier charge.

    Would it be possible to change the size of T-shirt?

    No. Size of T-shirt cannot be changed as it will be allocated according to the size you indicated on the Entry.

    If I have lost my Registration Confirmation / Registration Receipt, what can I do?

    You can bring your ID card/passport to the inquiry counter at the Race Kit Collection location. Officials will verify your status, and you can collect your Race Kit after verification.

    Would it be possible to authorize other person to pick my Race Kit?

    Yes. Please provide your representative to copy of your ID card/passport along with a copy of your Confirmation E-mail. Both documents are required for a 3rd party pick up.

    Can I pick up my Race Kit after the event?


    We will not distribute the Race Kit after the event; non-claimed race kit will be recycled or donated to charity.

     

    RACE DAY

    What time does my wave start on race day?

    The Race Day Schedule will be confirmed in early December

    What can I do with my bag?

    Baggage facilities will be provided for participants. We will not be responsible for lost or missing items.

    Where do I place my race bib?

    Your race bib should be properly secured using safety pins (provided with race kit) and must be displayed on your front throughout the race.

    Will the race start in waves or all at the same time?

    Participants will be flagged off in waves of around 10-15 participants each, depending on the number of entries of each category with Elite category participants in a timetrail format.

    Will there be water available?

    Yes, there will be water available for participants at the mid-way point and finish area.

    Will you have a Lost & Found in case I lose something on race day?

    Yes, the Lost & Found will be at the Info Desk for items that are missing on race day.

    Can my family and friends watch me race?

    Village Area: Yes, spectators will be allowed to watch the start at the non-restricted area of the Race Village

    Finish Area: Due to limited space, access to the finish areas will not be available for spectators.

     

    AFTER THE RACE

    Will I be given a finishers medal?

    Yes, all finishers of the race will be given a medal to commemorate your achievement.

    Where is the Prize Presentation held?

    The Prize Presentation will be held at the stage in the race village, street level of Etihad Towers

    Who receives awards on stage?

    Elite: The top 3 finishers in each age group.

    Challengers: The top 3 finishers in each age group.

    Corporate/Team Relay: The top 3 finishers in each age group.

    Individual Challenge: The top 3 finishers in each age group.

    If i am one of the winners in a category with prize money how do I receive it?
    All prize money will be released on the day of the event (post event) from the organizers office situated in Tower 5, ground floor. A valid form of ID will be required as well as receipt of acceptance.

    When will the race results be published?

    Provisional race results will be available through Sport360 and on our website within 24 hours of the end of the last race.

    Where can I find race photos?

    Race photos will be available soon after race day on this website and our social channels.
